200th * restaurant, a regrettable meal at Epicure (Paris)

When I got out of my rideshare, throngs of young women started to scream. The reception wasn't meant for me, but for the K Pop star who was in residence for Fashion Week at Le Bristol.

Unfortunately, this was the highlight of the evening.

Due to a scheduling snafu by another restaurant, my 200th * restaurant reverted to Epicure which I chose for several reasons: The 100th anniversary of Hotel Le Bristol, a recent change in chef to Arnaud Faye, and a previous meal at The Lanesborough in London, Le Bristol's sister hotel, although Faye did not helm the kitchen at this time).

Upon entry, I was asked if I would like to dine on the terrace. I politely declined and was met with a moderate amount of passive aggressive push back, as if I had ruined their service flow and server assignments for the night.

Not a good start.

The first course of beets tasted exactly how it looked in the photo below, monochromatic and one note. It tasted of..... beets. What else did it take like, you supposed food expert? Beets. It was one of the more disappointing dishes in a 3* restaurant I've had.

The truffles in the risotto were sourced from Chile and lacked any flavour or aroma whatsoever. I'm not against Chilean truffles. I've had good ones in other restaurants. But when you're going to source a less expensive product AND its shit, it's time to ring up Australia.

The carrot dish was an unrefined mess, and a sloppy, unsuccessful, version of Chef Banctel's signature at Le Gabriel.

Back to service, some of the wine drops were downright insulting. "Here's your (80 euro) Bordeaux." Having not seen the bottle, which they were too lazy to bring over, I'll take their word for it.

The chocolate dessert was as uninteresting as it looks.

At this point, I had become the uninterested one. Bored and annoyed with the lack of creativity in this meal, I took the overpriced bill and was thankful there were much better meals in Paris ahead.
