La Tour d'Argent (Paris), quack quack

Legendary La Tour d'Argent in Paris is known worldwide for its duck.

Mine was overcooked.

When you serve more than a million ducks, I guess that has to happen.

But what I'd rather talk about was a point of confusion.

The first drop off after snacks consisted of tomato soup.

Bread was being passed around the dining room and I didn't receive any.

I found that odd and off putting. Except it wasn't the first course at all. It was an amuse, to be followed by..... another tomato "soup."

There's a large library of tomatoes, and that's fine if you want to serve two tomato dishes in a row. But at least say something that one is an amuse and another is a first course. Or explain what tomatoes are being used and how they differ.

The manager offered a tour of the wine cellar and never materialized again. Upon departure, I inquired if that was still possible, and after waiting several minutes at the host stand, I said I would depart. I never expect something extra like this during a busy service, but then this "UNvitation" shouldn't be given.

Lunch was acceptable, even fine, and the setting was supreme, but when the highlight was the 36 month aged comté, there are much better options to be had.
